Brandon Smith currently teaches percussion at Haltom Senior High School in Haltom City, Texas, where the award-winning percussion ensemble recently had the honor of being selected to perform at the 2012 Midwest Convention. Prior to his position at Haltom High School, Smith taught for many award-winning programs across the country including Milton High School in Alpharetta, GA, Poinciana High School in Poinciana, FL, Union Grove High School in McDonough, GA, Prosper High School in Prosper, TX, McKinney High School in McKinney, TX and McKinney Boyd High School in McKinney, TX.
He was a performer and educator in the Winter Guard International circuit from 2000-2007 for Scholastic A, Scholastic Open, Independent Open and Independent World class organizations, including world championship finalist organizations Pariah Percussion and Odyssey Percussion Theatre. His percussion students have been awarded scholarships to university music programs throughout the country, have participated in Georgia and Texas All-State Bands, and have received superior ratings at state-level Texas UIL solo contests. Many of his students have went on to pursue WGI and DCI marching ensembles including The Cavaliers, Santa Clara Vanguard, Crossmen, Spirit of Atlanta, Blue Knights, Boston Crusaders, Music City Mystique, Odyssey Percussion Theatre, Atlanta Quest, and Pariah Percussion.
Mr. Smith attended Full Sail University in Orlando, Florida majoring in Recording Arts and Sciences. Having written over 110 marching band and percussion compositions and arrangements to date, he is also the author of “Foundations of Contemporary Marching Percussion” and the designer of the patented ‘AcoustaSource I’ acoustical reinforcement marimba chamber. Consistently recognized for his innovation in the marching arts, Mr. Smith enjoys an active schedule as a freelance clinician, adjudicator, performer and composer throughout the country.
His professional affiliations include the American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers, Percussive Arts Society and National Association of Music Merchants. He performs exclusively on Yamaha drums and keyboards, Zildjian cymbals, Remo drumheads, and Innovative Percussion sticks and mallets.
